Mom’s Articles

To survive, you must tell stories.

When Jeannie and Hardy Boys moved to the small Eastern Washington town of Twisp in the fall of 1979, she decided to start writing for the local newspaper. Her weekly column tended to focus on “fish out of water” themes as the city-slicker family attempted to adjust to live in the country. We produced lots of material for mom those first several years.

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.

That single writing gig led to work for other Central Washington publications: Omak Chronicle, Wenatchee World and even a few state-wide monthlies like the now-defunct Washington Magazine and the somehow non-defunct Grange News.

Mom, never one to let a spot of reality slow her down, then purchased a copier and started her own periodicals. The Spotted Chicken Society was the first, with Birdy’s Circle soon followed. I have a box full of old issues, which my web designatrix will be posting soon.

Remember that old cabin mentioned on the home page? Pretty sure there are tons more issues in there. Perhaps even other newsletters I didn’t know about.

It’s a bit of a tragedy Mom didn’t live long enough to do her own weblog. She would have rocked it.

This page is my sad little attempt to rectify this injustice.
